Hello, my name is Stefanie Regenbogen. I am 36 years old and a mom to two wonderful kids. After some time abroad and a degree in International Business and Management, I worked at various companies in the field of marketing and product management. In 2012 I moved with my husband to Munich and at the end of that year I found out that I was pregnant. What a nice surprise! However, this was not quite planned as we first wanted to get acquainted with our new home. Nevertheless, we were really happy with this new event in our lives. After the first joy, the pregnancy sickness quickly caught up with me: I was glad to be home every evening and to somehow have “survived” the day.
When I started searching for a midwife, after feeling better, I was shocked: Calls over calls and none available at my due date!!! In August many midwives were already booked. Friends? Yes, new friends, but none pregnant and no kids.
My friends with kids live far away in a village near Cologne and Munich specific questions could not be answered.
Somehow, I managed, but it could have been easier. Especially with the bureaucratic issues such as maternity protection, parental leave and parental allowance. Even during my second pregnancy I experienced how much time it takes to filter all relevant information on pregnancy, birth, baby and family for myself.
